Dawn House is one of the longest running domestic violence shelters in the Northern Territory. They consistently operate above capacity and despite all their tireless work to protect women and children from men’s violence, they have to turn hundreds of women away every month. Their infrastructure desperately needs upgrading to increase capacity but recently the CLP Government cut the $6.5 million that was earmarked for these upgrades. Dawn House is a lifeline for women and children amongst crisis levels of domestic and family violence in the NT. Kat McNamara MLA for Nightcliff and Justine Davis MLA for Johnston, are passionate about protecting women and children from men’s violence and fighting to ensure services like Dawn House are properly funded by governments.
Kat and Justine are riding in the upcoming Gran Fondo, in the 49km ride sponsored by Darwin Family Law. As part of their 'Polly Pedal', Darwin Family Law will donate $500 to any politician’s charity of choice, which for Kat and Justine is Dawn House. They will each be matching that with their own contributions of $500. To help support the crucial work of Dawn House, please contribute to this fundraiser if you can. You don’t have to ride anywhere, and every dollar goes directly to Dawn House.
Together, we can raise money for this life-saving organisation and send a message to the CLP Government that cutting funding to women’s shelters in a domestic violence crisis is unacceptable.
If you could share this fundraiser with family, friends and colleagues that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
